Interested in developing web applications in various programming languages? Do you want to retrieve and manipulate time series data from the PI Data Archive, and asset/event-specific data from the Asset Framework?

In this course, you will learn the basics of PI Web API through hands-on exercises and final project. The course covers how to interact with PI Web API using HTTP requests and how to work with the PI Index Search Crawler. We will take a look at 2 example applications for PI Web API, one in JavaScript and the other in C#.

For the final project, get prepared to create your own application with the PI Web API that will be useful in your day-to-day operations!


This course is for developers to learn the different options and methods for working with the PI Web API. You will learn how to perform functions like making basic requests, using headers, search, and application development.


This course does not teach programming, but rather how to use the PI Web API within your business. Developers should have basic knowledge of HTTP requests, as well as general programming skills in C# and/or JavaScript.

Software Requirements

Note: Individuals enrolled in this course will be required to use their own data structures. This allows each learner to leave the course with something immediately valuable in their enterprise. The requirements for completing the exercises and the final project are as follows:
  • PI System (running and collecting data with write access)
  •      PI Data Archive
         PI AF Server
  • PI Web API (admin access) and PI Index Search feature
  • Chrome and Fiddler
