In this course, you will learn about the topics surrounding the design and implementation of a highly available PI System. You will learn how to install a PI Data Archive and to form a PI Collective within an existing system.
This course also covers the basics of installing a PI Interface, enabling the PI Buffer Subsystem, and configuring a PI Interface for Interface Failover. Additional topics, such as security and managing connections, will be discussed. By the end of this course, you will feel comfortable working with various PI System utilities, including PI System Management Tools, PI Collective Manager, and the PI Interface Configuration Utility.


This course is primarily suited for the professional who develops implementation plans for enterprise applications. This course is for anyone who needs to understand the various parts of the PI System, resource requirements, and High Availability options inherent in the PI System. Overall, this course is intended to prepare you to develop the best strategy to start implementing the PI System infrastructure into your organization.
No system management tasks will be taught in this course.

Note: Learners are encouraged to use their own PI System development environment. This allows each learner to leave the course with something immediately valuable in their enterprise. We do not recommend practicing configuration and security in a production environment.The software requirements for completing the exercises and the final project are as follows:
  • Access to Active Directory
  • Access to the following Install Kits: PI Data Archive, PI Interface Configuration Utility & PI Interface for OPC DA
  • Two PI Data Archive Machines
  • Two PI Interface Machines
