About this course

This course will help you understand best practices for creating reports and be able to prepare PI System data and event frames for root cause analysis. 

Previously this course was named: PI DataLink with Excel’s Advanced Features.

By the end of the course, you will be able to...

  • Create formulas from each group of PI DataLink functions
  • Analyze data with Excel features such as PivotTables, PivotCharts, and Sparklines
  • Troubleshoot a slow workbook using a variety of tools
  • Learn about Excel's new dynamic array functions

Audience

This course is designed for people who are familiar with Excel and have already used PI DataLink. 

Level: Intermediate

Study time: 4 hours

Course Access: Unlimited access to all content except the Training Cloud Environment (TCE). You have 30 days access to the TCE starting on the day you access module section "Launch Cloud Environment". 

After those 30 days you can purchase additional access with one of the two options below:

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of PI DataLink, MS Excel, and relational databases.
  • A computer that can access our YouTube content.

Software Requirements

  • In this course, we will work with a cloud environment. The following components were provided in the cloud environment:
    • PI Datalink 2019 SP1,
    • PI Data Archive 2017,
    • PI AF Server 2017,
    • Microsoft Excel for Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.12827.20236)
  • Although most of this course is not version-specific, there is one exercise that uses the newest features of Excel and requires the newest Excel 365. This course can still be useful even if you don’t have this version of Excel as you can follow along with all of the other exercises.

  • A Cloud Environment accessible for 30 days and configured to complete all the exercises in the course
  • This course is self-paced for your convenience. Thus, there are no live components to the course, nor are there required login hours. Please use the video lectures for instruction along with the course exercises to gain experience working with the key concepts presented.
  • There is a final quiz which you must pass to obtain a certificate of completion.
