About this course

In this course, you will learn how to create different types of asset analytics to gain more insight into your data. Using Asset Framework (AF), we will explore a range of calculation methods including formula and value retrieval modes for simple calculations, expressions with multi-line calculations, roll-ups for aggregate attributes.

By the end of the course, you will be able to...

  • Use analysis syntax to create simple analyses
  • Create different types of analyses: expressions and rollups
  • Set up analyses using templates in AF
  • Manage, backfill and recalculate analyses

Audience

This course is best suited for PI System users who are already familiar with the basics of Asset Framework and who are interested in creating asset based analytics.

Level: Intermediate

Study Time: 14 hours

Course Access: Unlimited access to all content except the Training Cloud Environment (TCE). You have 30 days access to the TCE starting on the day you access module section "Launch Cloud Environment".

After those 30 days you can purchase additional access with one of the two options below:

Prerequisites

This course is for intermediate to advanced users of Asset Framework (AF) who are already familiar with the basics of AF such as:

  • working with PI System Explorer (PSE)
  • building and managing asset hierarchies in AF using templates
  • working with different data reference types: table lookup, formula, PI Point, etc.

Students without prior knowledge of AF should take the Asset Framework: Basics online course first.

Software Requirements

Students are encouraged to use their own software and data structures. This allows each student to leave the course with something valuable to their enterprise. The software requirements for completing the exercises and are as follows:

  • Access to Asset Framework 2018 or later (PI AF Server and PI AF Client) with Analysis Service set up (port 5463 needs to be open).
  • Access to new AF databases with read/write permissions (i.e. permissions to modify and create templates, attributes and analyses).
  • Access to the Data Archive with read/write permissions to create tags. Because analyses output tags are created in this course, access to a development or sandbox Data Archive server is encouraged.

* If you do not have access to a PI System you can use the included Training Cloud Environment. Go to the Training Cloud Environment section to learn more about it and deploy your cloud environments.

For this course you will also need a computer that can access our YouTube content, and pass our connection test

This Course Includes...

  • Videos, exercises and quizzes to help you learn the material
  • A Cloud Environment accessible for 30 days and configured to complete all the exercises in the course
  • A sharable certificate of completion

Further Information

  • This is a self-paced course. Any questions or assistance needed about the material can be asked in this course's space in the OSIsoft PI Square community
  • When you complete the examination at the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion which can be shared and directly posted on LinkedIn
