Learn to architect, upgrade, and secure highly available PI Data Archive, Asset Framework, and Interfaces

About this course

This class covers what you need to know to expand, secure, upgrade, or increase uptime on PI Systems. In the basics class we covered installation and configuration of the simplest minimum viable PI System. In this class, we're no longer assuming we live in a fantasy land where everything goes right for us - and we're building something bigger and better, and implementing an architecture that works across domains and secure networks. We're aiming for tight security, high uptime, and zero data loss.

In this class we teach theory while going through common, practical examples that you'll most likely come across on the job. We start with a poorly implemented system, and fix it up - going through theory while we do. You'll learn not only the skills to update and upgrade existing PI Systems, but also critically think through solutions to problems.

By the end of the course, you will be able to...

  • Manage multiple interfaces on a single interface machine
  • Update, upgrade or move an interface from one version to the next
  • Allow cross-domain authentication for interfaces
  • Install Asset Framework (AF) with a remote SQL backend
  • Configure a set of redundant AF Servers
  • Configure a Data Archive collective
  • Devise a strategy to expand or rearchitect a PI System

Audience

This course is best suited for a PI System administrator who is responsible for setting up and maintaining the PI System. It is designed to be an extension on the PI System Administration: Basics class, and it's assumed that any attendees have already attended that class, or at least have a working knowledge of basic PI System Administration.
